Chile at Full-Strength to take on Uruguay in World Cup Warm-Up

Chile have gone for a full-strength roster to take on Uruguay. Los Cóndores travel across the Andes to face Los Teros in Montevideo on Saturday, July 29. The fixture is the first of four Rugby World Cup warm-up matches for the Chileans. The three subsequent matches will all be home matches.

Flanker Martín Sigren is back from injury to lead his country. Also back is Javier Eissmann while fellow second-rower Augusto Sarmiento continues his recovery. The 30 players on the roster are all expected to play for Chile at Rugby World Cup 2023.

The 30-man roster features two loose head props, three hookers and three tight head props. There are four second-rowers, one of whom is Clemente Saavedra who moves between the second-row and the back-row for Chile.

Sigren is one of five back-rowers not including Clemente Saavedra. He is expected to lead Los Cóndores in Montevideo in the 6 shirt. Sigren played this past season in England while tight head prop Matías Dittus and center Iñaki Ayarza played in France.

The roster includes four scrum-half. The uncapped Benjamín Videla may well feature on the wing. He has previously done so in uncapped matches and in Super Rugby Americas for Selknam. Rodrigo Fernández is the only fly half tough fullback Francisco Urroz and Santiago Videla are both naturally fly halves.

There are four centers but just two wingers. Pablo Lemoine has moved his backs in the past and may continue to do so against Uruguay. his could see Pablo Casas or Matías Garafulic playing wing. Missing is Nicolás Garafulic who is yet to return from injury suffered early on in Super Rugby Americas 2023.

Second-rower Pablo Huete, flanker Ignacio Silva and center / wing José Ignacio Larenas are Chile’s longest-serving active test players. They debuted in 2009, 2010 and 2012 respectively. Larenas has the most caps with 40. Silva has the second most with 36.
