Colombia Qualify for WXV with victory over Brazil

Colombia defeated Brazil 30-19 in Medellín on Sunday. The decisive result, in combination with the win earlier on in the week, sees Las Tucanes qualifying for the WXV. Colombia will be the Sudamérica Rugby participant in the WXV in Dubai.

Colombia were the first to score at the Estadio Cincuentenario. Maria Arzuaga landed an early penalty. Brazil responded with the opening try of the match. Scrum-half Luiza Campos darted over for As Yaras.

Colombia hit-back with the opening try of their own. Leidy Soto scored the first of three. The center’s hat-trick was critical in the contest of the match. Her first score put Colombia 11-5 while her hair-trick was completed to put Colombia in firm control.

Colombia added another with N8 Maribel Mestra scoring. Brazil enjoyed a strong finish with the scrum giving them two penalty tries. It was a good way to end the contest for the visitors.

While Colombia turn their attention to the WXV in Dubai in October, Brazil looks now to the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 Qualifiers. Colombia reached the repechage stage of the qualifiers for the last Women’s Rugby World Cup.
