Canada names Pacific Four training camp roster

Kévin Rouet has selected 40 players to attend a training camp in Perth, Ontario, next week to prepare for the upcoming Pacific Four tests in Ottawa. Canada defeated the USA 50-17 in Spain on April 1, and will play against New Zealand on July 8 and Australia on July 14.

A number of uncapped players have been included. Among them are sevens series stars Caroline Crossley and Olivia Apps. Crossley recently returned from a stint in Spain while Apps was a late call-up to the World Cup squad in New Zealand but is yet to make her test debut.

A long list of 15 non-travelling reserves have also been named. The most notable names on the list are former World Cup star Magali Harvey, ex-Loughborough lock Abby Duguid, and World Cup winger Renee Gonzalez. Several experienced players were unavailable including halfback trio Brianna Miller, Taylor Perry, and Alex Tessier. Star flanker Karen Paquin is also absent.

Training camp will begin on June 26 and conclude on July 1 when Canada will hold a scrimmage with the USA at Oakfield Rugby Park. Rouet will then reduce the squad to 30 players for the two tests.
