Another Argentine will play in next season’s United Rugby Championship (URC). Zebre have confirmed the signing of flanker Bautista Stávile. In doing so, Stavile will play professional rugby at the elite level for the first time.
Stávile moves to the URC at the age of 26. He joins Zebre, a team that has a healthy contingent of Argentines. Prop Juan Pitinari, flanker Guido Volpi, scrum-half Gonzalo García and fly half Gerónimo Prisciantelli are Zebre players. Like Pitinari and Volpi, Stavile is eligible to play for Italy.
From the foot of the Andes, Stávile was spotted young and developed in the Mendoza high performance system. He played for Mendoza at provincial level and for Argentina u20’s at the 2016 and 2017 Junior World Championships. Los Pumitas finished third in 2016.
Stávile is a product of Mendoza RC in Mendoza province. He played for Selknam in the 2020 and 2021 Súper Lag Americana de Rugby (SLAR) seasons. He moved to Italy as part of the 2021 SLAR Argentine player exodus. He played for Viadana and Rovigo in the Italian Top 10, winning the national title with the latter in 2023. He now moves up to the URC with Zebre.
