The USA will face three World Cup teams in August. Squaring off against the Men’s Eagles will be Romania, Portugal, and Georgia on consecutive weekends beginning on August 5. A rematch against the Lobos is the latest to be confirmed with the Oaks and Lelos already public knowledge.
It will be the first tests for the Eagles since the disappointment of missing out on France 2023 qualification this past November. Scott Lawrence takes charge for the first time as Interim Head Coach and says he intends to bring a team capable of winning.
“This tour represents the first small sprint of a race toward Rugby World Cup 2027 qualification. With that, our goal for this tour is to put the very best players playing the very best rugby our country can produce, while providing developmental experiences for players on the rise.”
A small group consisting of staff, senior domestic players, and Eagles alumni will gather for a ‘culture and alignment’ camp in April. Lawrence says it’s primarily about building mentorship relationships between past Eagles and future leaders heading towards RWC 2027 qualification.
“When you’re going for a moonshot, a one degree error in the beginning navigation misses the mark by thousands of miles at the end. This is about setting the best possible course we can now and putting in the processes that allow us to course correct along the way.”
