Facundo Cordero has completed a transfer from the Exeter Chiefs to the Glasgow Warriors. The move sees the 24-year-old making the move from the English Premiership to the United Rugby Championship (URC) and from England to Scotland.
Cordero is the latest of a growing number of Exeter Chiefs’ players to be moving to other teams. Included among the other transfers is Santiago Grondona. The Pumas flanker now plays for Brive in the Top 14.
Facundo Cordero arrived in England from Argentina in 2020. He made the move after having been on the Ceibos roster for the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Exeter was his first overseas club and one well-known to his family; his brother Santiago Cordero is a former Exeter Chief.
Following his move from Argentina to Europe, Facundo Cordero went on to make his test debut. He earned his one cap on the November 2021 tour to Europe. Facundo Cordero was a replacement against Ireland in Dublin.
International honors in 2022 saw Facundo Cordero on the July tour to Georgia and Portugal. The Argentina XV defeated both RWC 2023 competitors in away matches. Facundo Cordero was a replacement winger against both Georgia and Portugal.
Julián Domínguez, Mateo Carreras, and Martín Bogado started for the Argentina XV in the back-three against Portugal. Carreras featured for Argentina in November 2022 while Bogado was on the roster but unused. Domínguez now plays for the Chicago Hounds in Major League Rugby (MLR) and Bogado for the Highlanders in Super Rugby.
Sebastián Cancelliere started against Georgia and was a replacement scrum-half against Portugal. Cancelliere will be a teammate of Cordero at the Glasgow Warriors. The Scottish side is also home to Argentine fly half Domingo Miotto and Argentine props Enrique Pieretto and Lucio Sordoni. Pieretto featured against Georgia, and Lucio Sordoni.
Facundo and Santiago Cordero are products of Regatas Bella Vista in Buenos Aires. Both went through the domestic system before earning representative honors and becoming professional players.
