Make it five podium finishes in five events for the Women’s Eagles. The USA defeated France in the Bronze Final to all but clinch their spot at the Paris Olympics. They now hold a virtually insurmountable 24-point lead over 5th-place Ireland, and are 16 points ahead of 4th-place France.
The victory over France made up for a dismal 38-0 performance against Australia in the Semi Final that included three tries from Maddison Levi. Ultimately it was New Zealand who claimed their fourth consecutive Cup Final win that will make it exceedingly difficult for either Australia or the USA to stop them from taking the overall title.
Canada can look back on a positive tournament as they finished 6th, their highest ranking of the season. Fancy Bermudez scored twice in the win over Ireland, and it took a remarkable four-try performance from Reapi Ulunisau to gave Fiji the victory in the 5th place Final.
Brazil and Colombia faced each other in what was their only match on Day Three. Two tries from Gabriela Lima gave the Yaras a 26-12 win, though Daniela Alzate managed a double for the Colombians.
The women’s circuit resumes at the end of the month in Hong Kong, with the final tournament to take place in Toulouse in mid-May.
