Julián Domínguez will join the Chicago Hounds. The Argentine speedster makes the move to the Windy City for Major League Rugby (MLR) 2023. The move sees the outstanding finisher joining a third MLR team.
Domínguez arrived in the USA for MLR 2020. After two seasons with the NOLA Gold, Domínguez moved to Texas to play for Austin Gilgronis. His impressive season in MLR 2022 saw him selected for international duty in July. He played for the Argentina XV in away wins over World Cup 2023 competitors Portugal and Georgia. He started both matches ahead of Puma Facundo Cordero.
MLR players, teams and supporters are fully aware that Domínguez is one of the deadliest finishers in the league. He had played for the Pumitas u20, senior non-capped Argentina XV, and Pumas Sevens sides. The 25-year-old winger scored a team-leading 9 tries in 14 games for NOLA in 2021.
Originally Domínguez came from the Pucurá club in Buenos Aires, who have produced a number of World Cup Pumas including Lucas Borges, Bautista Delguy, and Lucas González Amorosino. The latter now plays for the American Raptors in Super Rugby Americas.
Pucará also produced second row Rimas Álvarez Kairelis who finished third with Los Pumas at RWC 2007 and won a Top 14 title with Perpignan two years later. Domínguez will be the only Pucará player and the only Argentine at the Chicago Hounds.
