The American Raptors roster is growing by one. Lucas González Amorosino will play Super Rugby Americas 2023 for the Colorado team. The veteran of Rugby World Cups 2011 and 2015 brings with him a wealth of experience – he has played at the elite in Super Rugby, England, France and Ireland.
González Amorosino is a product of Buenos Aires’ Pucará club. He developed through the amateur system before joining the PladAR academy and going on to the very top. Before becoming a Puma, González Amorosino played for Los Pumas Sevens.
His abilities were noted by scouts from Europe. This saw him earning his first professional contract with the Leicester Tigers. He was the star for the Tigers in a win over South Africa. After two seasons he moved to France where he played for Montpellier and Oyonnax. He was a standout for Montpellier which saw him earning selection for Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand.
Argentina had a tough group at Rugby World Cup 2011. Having narrowly lost against England, Los Pumas needed to win their remaining pool matches. A win over Romania was followed by a heart-stopper with González Amorosino scoring a sensational solo try; the only try of the match.
Los Pumas defeated Georgia in their final pool match to book a Quarter Final against hosts New Zealand. González Amorosino also scored against Romania in the tournament. Argentina were eliminated by New Zealand but would reach the Semi Finals four years later. In Rugby World Cup 2015, González Amorosino played against New Zealand, Georgia, Namibia, Australia and South Africa.
Like many on the Pumas roster, González Amorosino joined Los Jaguares to play Super Rugby in 2016. It added to an impressive resumé that included Cardiff in Wales, Munster in Ireland, the Leicester Tigers in England and both Montpellier and Oyonnax in France.
The American Raptors is nos set-up to be the final chapter for the 37-year-old. He will reunite with longtime Pumas teammate Martín Landajo while fellow Pumas Ramiro Moyano and Diego Fortuny are also on the roster.
