Chicago signs former Wasps and Glasgow prop George Thornton

The Chicago Hounds have announced the signing of loosehead prop George Thornton for the upcoming Major League Rugby campaign. A former Scotland under-20 representative, the 26-year-old arrives from Australia where he has been playing with Northern Suburbs in the Shute Shield.

Thornton is originally from England and is a product of the Wasps academy program. After playing for Scotland at the 2016 and 2017 World Rugby u20 Championships he made the switch to Glasgow Warriors. He has also turned out for Ampthill and Nottingham on loan in the English Championship, and Ayrshire Bulls in the Scottish Super 6.

At 6’3″ (1.91m) Thornton is an imposing figure who is noted for his powerful charges with ball in hand. He joins LaRome White, Charlie Abel, Paddy Ryan, and Mika Felix as the senior prop group for the Hounds. Timmy Ohlwein and Jeffery Steele, who were on the books for Dallas and Utah last season respectively, are currently on the training roster.
