Fourth straight podium finish for Women’s Eagles

Make it four consecutive podium finishes for the Women’s Eagles on the World Sevens Series. As New Zealand continued their stranglehold on top spot overall, the USA claimed bronze in Sydney now hold a 14-point buffer in the Olympic qualification race with three tournaments to go.

France were the better side in the Cup Semi Final, with a four-tries-to-one victory over the USA. The Bronze Final though went to the Eagles in a 12-5 contest against Ireland. Sam Sullivan and Kristi Kirshe were the try-scorers.

Both Canada and Brazil played twice on Day Three, and both won convincingly in their first matches. Canada swept aside Spain, and Brazil thrashed Papua New Guinea with Gabriela Lima scoring a hat-trick. It was Thalia Costa’s turn to grab a triple in the 9th-place Final, but the Canadians came from behind to be As Yaras thanks to a double from Fancy Bermudez.

The USA are even with Australia in overall points but currently rank third due to scoring differential. Canada are one point below Spain for 10th overall, with Brazil five points further back in 11th spot. The women’s circuit resumes on March 3 in Vancouver.
