Jack Heighton will play a second season in New York. The 23-year-old flyhalf has committed to the 2023 Major League Rugby season, having spent recent months with North Harbour in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship.
Heighton was a success in his first MLR campaign, initially starting at fullback but then securing the No10 shirt for the second half of the season. He led the team in scoring and memorably kicked the match-winning penalty goal with time expired against San Diego in Hoboken.
This season should see Heighton at the pivot position to start the campaign for the defending champions. With Andy Ellis now retired, however, it’s unclear who will be Heighton’s halfback partner. Connor Buckley and Conor McManus shared the alternate duties at No9 last season.
