The New York Ironworkers have re-signed scrumhalf Conor McManus for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. This will be the third year for the 23-year-old, who arrived ahead of the 2021 campaign after a stint with Canterbury’s under-19 squad.
McManus is originally from New Zealand but moved to Virginia in 2014 and has represented the USA at u19 level. For the past two seasons he has been a regular in New York’s match day squads, making a dozen appearances this past year including four starts.
With Andy Ellis now retired and moving into a coaching role, it remains to be seen if New York brings in a more experienced scrumhalf or looks to their two returning youngsters. McManus has competed with fellow USA age-grade rep Connor Buckley for playing time since 2021 and will do so again in 2023.
