The New England Free Jacks have re-signed openside flanker Ethan Fryer for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He has been elevated to a full senior contract after initially joining on a development deal.
Just 20 years old, Fryer made his professional debut as a replacement in Toronto this past June. He then represented Canada u20 in their August series against Zimbabwe, Chile, and Uruguay. The Washington native qualifies through his Canadian father. He remains eligible for both Canada and the USA.
This fall Fryer stayed in Boston and played for Mystic River in the American Rugby Premiership. He joins an impressive loose forward stable at the Free Jacks that includes fellow returnees Slade McDowall, Joe Johnston, Cam Davidowicz, and Wian Conradie. New additions are Waikato captain Mitch Jacobson, Tongan international Semisi Paea, and US-eligible draft pick Tomás Casares.
