Bermuda Wins Bowl at Monmouth

A Bermuda Selects side made the trip to the USA this past weekend taking part in the Monmouth 7s in New Jersey. The Selects faced some solid opposition throughout the day and finished strong in taking home the Bowl. The side finished the day with a 3-2 record and some good experience.

In pool play, Bermuda opened up the tournament with a 34-0 win over Old Blue’s 3rd Side. They followed that with a 35-7 loss to Old Blue’s 2nd Side and finished the pool round with a loss to the New York Rugby Club. The Select’s 1-2 pool record dropped them into the Bowl Round.

In the Bowl semifinal, Bermuda posted a narrow 24-22 victory over the Village Lions. A late conversion from David Lunn being the deciding points in the match. The semifinal win put Bermuda into the Bowl Final against Long Island. The Selects controlled the match from start to finish winning 29-0. Tom Healy scored two tries for the Selects in the Bowl final.

Lunn led the Bermuda Selects with one try and seven conversions for a total of 19 points for the tournament. Team Captain Tommy Edwards, Tom Healy, and Patrick Calow each scored three tries during the tournament.
