Paddy Ryan has agreed to join the Chicago Hounds for their inaugural campaign. The former Eagles prop, who turns 32 in December, makes the move to his fourth Major League Rugby team having previously played for Austin, New York, and most recently San Diego. He confirmed the move in conversation with local news outlet ABC7.
Though raised in Ireland, Ryan was born in his mother’s home town of Chicago and has a large group of family members in the area. He follows fellow USA international Bryce Campbell to the Midwest, with Repechage squad members Luke Carty and Chris Mattina also set to be unveiled by the Hounds.
A heavyweight tighthead specialist known for his scrummaging, Ryan has ironically been replaced by his namesake at the Legion. The 34-year-old Paddy Ryan is an Australia international, and had previously played for the Legion in 2019 and 2021. The two Paddy’s started in opposing No3 jerseys in each of the three meetings between New York and San Diego during the 2019 season.
