Chile fell to a 32-10 loss against Tonga on Saturday. The venue was the neutral setting of Bucharest, Romania. This influences the rankings points exchanged as fewer points are on the line at neutral games compared to when one os the home team. The exchange is 0.16 points, or a fall from 22nd to 21st in the world.
Chile’s fall is Canada’s gain. Canada and Chile switch positions in both the Americas Rankings and the World Rankings. Canada are back to 4th in the Americas based on Chile’s loss and Canada’s 37-25 win over the Netherlands. The win gave Canada +0.57 points.
The USA are also on the rise. The Eagles Rugby World Cup 2023 Qualifier win over Hong Kong gave the USA a + 0.81 gain. The USA were 49-7 winners in Dubai. The outcome is a rise from 20th to 18th in the world. Their opponents on Friday, Portugal, are 19th and Romania 20th.
As noted by World Rugby last week, a win for Uruguay over Romania meant a rise to as high as 15th in the World Rankings. Uruguay did win and the rankings exchange of 1.36 points means Uruguay rise to 16th while Romania fall from 17th to 20th. Spain, who defeated Namibia 34-17, fall a spot to 17th.
Argentina’s 20-13 loss away to Wales has not affected the positioning of the top Americas side Argentina remain 6th in the world behind Ireland, France, New Zealand, England, and South Africa.
An upset result this weekend included Argentine players Juan Ignacio Brex and Iván Nemer. Italy’s historical win over Australia sees the central Europeans rising to 11th in the world. Australia are 9th, a record low.
The Americas Rankings will be updated following the completition of international competititon next weekend. Activity involving the Americas includes the winner-takes-all RWC qualifier between the USA and Portugal. Additional test matches see Uruguay facing Tonga, Canada facing Namibia and Argentina taking-on Scotland.
