Uruguay names squad for historic Hong Kong Sevens

Uruguay have confirmed their roster for the Hong Kong Sevens. The opening round of the 2022-23 World Series is an historic event for Los Teros, their first ever as a core member on the circuit after achieving victory at the Challenger Sevens event in Santiago, Chile, earlier this year.

Most of the names who took part in that event will continue with the squad. Felipe Etcheverry and Tomas Inciarte will instead travel to Europe with the senior test side, but several others who might have been on that team will instead play in the shortened code for now.

Outside backs Baltazar Amaya, Bautista Basso, José Iruleguy, and Mateo Viñals are all in that category, as are loose forwards Tomás Etcheverry and Carlos Deus. They are complimented by sevens specialists Diego Ardao, Guillermo Lijtenstein, and James McCubbin.

The three-day Hong Kong tournament begins on November 4. Uruguay have been drawn in Pool B and will play against South Africa on Day One, followed by France and Great Britain on Day Two.
