Chile select strong squad for Americas Rugby Trophy

Chile will field a team of near test-strength in the upcoming Americas Rugby Trophy matches against the Brazil XV and Canada ‘A’. The 28-man squad contains only four uncapped players and is largely comprised of those who suited up for Selknam during the 2022 SLAR season.

The exceptions are Seattle Seawolves hooker Augusto Böhme, tighthead prop Lucas Bordigoni, second row Clemente Saavedra, and versatile backs Tomás Salas and Pablo Casas. Bordigoni, Saavedra, and Casas have returned from overseas stints and along with Salas are now in line to join Selknam in 2023.

Players yet to make their senior Cóndores debut are loose forwards Santiago Edwards and Joaquín Milesi, midfielder Diego Warnken, and winger Cristóbal Game. All but Warnken appeared in a two-match series against the Brazil XV in August.

The first match for the Chile XV will take place on Sunday against the Brazil XV, followed by Canada ‘A’ next Friday. Both games will be played at the Estádio Nogueira in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil.
