Free Jacks hand two-year deal to speedster Zach Bastres

The New England Free Jacks have re-signed winger Zach Bastres on a two-year deal through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. He was selected in the 3rd round of the 2021 Collegiate Draft and made his professional debut as a replacement against Old Glory DC in Week 2.

Bastres was part of the USA’s u23 high performance training group and recorded the fastest sprint time at New England’s preseason camp. After scoring a crucial try in the road win over Austin he was handed back-to-back starts in the No14 shirt against NOLA and Seattle.

Unfortunately his 2022 season would come to a premature end after suffering a broken collarbone against the Seawolves. Bastres will now look to make his mark on the 2023 campaign. He joins this past season’s first choice wing duo Paula Balekana and Mitch Wilson in committing for 2023 and beyond.
