The New England Free Jacks have found their replacement for Beaudein Waaka. Arriving from Taranaki in New Zealand is Jayson Potroz. The two players were teammates at the provincial outfit in 2018. Waaka has now joined Japanese club Kobelco Steelers.
Potroz is 30 years old and boasts over 100 premier club games for Tukapa. He initially broke into the Taranaki side as a fullback before taking over the starting No10 shirt in 2021. Similar to Waaka, Potroz is highly regarded for his attacking ability and won both Back of the Year and Sevens Player of the Year for the province in 2019.
Having missed the past five NPC games for Taranaki with a shoulder injury, Potroz is now listed as week-to-week and is expected to be fully fit for the start of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. This will be his first overseas professional contract.
