Kisi Unufe has been recalled to the USA squad for this weekend’s LA Sevens. He makes his returns to the World Sevens Series after a two-year hiatus, having most recently played for the Houston SaberCats in Major League Rugby.
The Eagles have been hit with the loss of captain Kevon Williams, who is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery last week to repair a lower leg injury. Stephen Tomasin takes over the leadership role with Joe Schroeder acting as vice-captain.
Adam Channel, Ben Broselle, Faitala Talapusi, and D’Montae Noble miss out after playing at the London tournament in May. Receiving call-ups in addition to Unufe are Aaron Cummings, Gavan D’Amore-Morrison, Naima Fuala’au, and Cody Melphy.
Another notable addition is that of Ben Pinkelman to the coaching staff. The 28-year-old was forced to put his playing career on hold due to a chronic back injury just ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. This past weekend he helped coach the USA u23 side at the RugbyTown 7s.
The Eagles are currently in 6th spot on the season standings, 8 points behind Ireland and 3 points ahead of France. They will compete in the ultra-competitive Pool B at Dignity Health Sports Park, along with South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada.
