The Toronto Arrows have re-signed openside flanker James O’Neill for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. It will be his second campaign with the club. He was initially drafted by the LA Giltinis in 2021 but was acquired by Toronto in the deal that sent Ben LeSage to California.
O’Neill lived up to expectations with his outstanding breakdown work and tenacious tackling. He played 10 games including 6 starts as he forced his way into the No7 shirt on form. A suspension ended his season early but the 24-year-old should play a key role for the Arrows in 2023.
Meanwhile academy captain Sam Mace, also 24, has signed on with Leeds Tykes in England’s third division. He was third choice hooker in 2022 but did not make any regular season appearances. Mace is originally from Blackpool but retains his Canadian eligibility based on cumulative residency.
