Canadian World Cup fullback Matt Evans has extended his stay with Greene King IPA Championship club Cornish Pirates for another year. The 28-year-old has become a favorite of the Mennaye faithful in Penzance since joining the club from Newport in 2011. He has made 83 appearances across all competitions for the Pirates in five seasons.
Originally born in Salisbury, England, Evans emigrated to Vancouver Island at age 12 and won his first of 32 caps for Canada in 2008. Though primarily an outside back, his versatility has seen him appear all across the backline for both club and country. He has scored seven tries in 13 starts so far this season, and now boasts an impressive strike rate of 32 tries in 59 games in the English second tier.
Fellow Canadians Brett Beukeboom and Aaron Carpenter are also at the club. Beukeboom is contracted until the end of the 2016-17 while Carpenter is up for renewal in June.
