Fiji claimed their second tournament win of the season with a convincing Cup Final win over Ireland at the Toulouse Sevens. It moves them up to 5th overall, while poor results for South Africa have seen Argentina move into top spot for the first time in World Series history with two events left.
Los Pumas won both of their games on Day Three. Marcos Moneta scored two tries to lead them past Australia, and then Moneta produced another double against England in the 5th Place Final. Argentina now hold a two-point lead over the Blitzboks at the top of the standings, with the Australians another six points back in 3rd place.
The Men’s Eagles played just once with no seeding game taking place. They were defeated handily by England which left them in a tie for 7th spot with Australia. With 80 competition points the USA are just one behind 6th-place France, and are within striking distance of both Fiji and Ireland.
Canada also had just one game, a disappointing performance against Wales that left them tied with Kenya for lowest spot in the tournament. It’s a dramatic turnaround of fortunes after their near-miss on a Cup Quarter Final spot on Day Two. With two tournaments to play they are in 14th place and are in danger of relegation. Wales are just one point behind and Scotland hold a five-point lead in 13th place.
The circuit continues next weekend in London, with the Finale delayed until August 27 in Los Angeles due to rescheduling required by the COVID-19 pandemic.
