Clermont have recruited Bautista Delguy. The Puma arrives from Perpignan, doing so after obtaining early release from his contract. He joined Perpignan for the 2021-2022 season on a two-year-deal. Clermont will be his third Top 14 club, and arguably the highest profile.
The Puma signed for Bordeaux in November 2020 as a medical joker. He did so after previously having been a regular for Los Jaguares in Super Rugby.
Delguy had the company of Santiago Cordero, and Guido Petti at Bordeaux. The trio featured in the 2020 Tri Nations. Delguy started on the right wing in the win over New Zealand and in both drawn matches against Australia. He was a try scorer in the later draw.
Perpignan is home to former Jaguares captain Jerónimo de la Fuente. Delguy and de la Fuente have many caps together for Argentina and were longtime teammates in Super Rugby. Perpignan is also home to Puma Joaquín Oviedo and former Pumas Patricio Fernández, and Martín Landajo.
Clermont is the home of Tomás Lavanini. Delguy and Lavanini are both front-line names to play in France at RWC 2023. The club is also adding Argentine center Juan Pablo Castro from SLAR.
Delguy has been a regular on Pumas rosters since his debut. He is still aged just 25 meaning his prime is still ahead of him. Clermont are looking to rebuild to again compete for Top 14 and Champions Cup titles.
Before joining Clermont, Delguy will play for Los Pumas. He is on Argentina’s roster for the July Internationals against Scotland.
