North Americans star in Premier 15s regular season finale

The final week of the Premier 15s regular season is now in the books, and North Americans again played a leading role. Several will now move on to next weekend’s Semi Finals with a favorable chance of reaching the June 3 Final at Sixways.

Saracens celebrated a stunning 31-26 come-from-behind win over Wasps. They had already clinched top spot on the table but were staring at defeat with a 21-nil first half deficit. Canadian winger Alysha Corrigan started the comeback with a try just before halftime, and USA midfielder Alev Kelter scored the match-winner late in the game while also contributing three conversions.

Exeter fought off the challenge of Bristol to secure second spot on the table. Eagles duo Jennine Detiveaux and Kate Zackary each grabbed doubles, with Gabby Cantorna adding two conversions. Canada hooker Emily Tuttosi was the other try-scorer as North Americans accounted for all 29 points against Bristol’s 26.

Bulou Mataitoga and Hallie Taufo’ou touched down for Loughborough in their 22-17 win over Harlequins. Both will now join the Eagles camp in preparation for the Pacific Four tournament. Canuck winger Paige Ferries scored two tries for Worcester in the 51-26 over Sale, with USA prop Catie Benson grabbing a consolation try for the Sharks.

This year will see a new finalist with Saracens and Harlequins to contest the first Semi Final. They had faced each other in all three Finals to date. Exeter will rematch Bristol in the second Semi Final.
