Sensational Selknam complete SLAR 2022 double over Jaguares XV

Selknam have done it again. Chile’s professional rugby team completed a sensational double. They were 23-10 winners over Los Jaguares XV on Wednesday. The result gives Selknam four competition points and moves Selknam above Los Jaguares XV to occupy second position in the standings.

As was the case in the round there fixture, the Chileans were winners. Also like on that occasion, the win was on merit with no luck involved. Selknam got the upper hand, put a lead together and did not panic.

The match was played in front of Michael Cheika and his colleagues in Los Pumas coaching staff. The prospects of players being called-up for international duty in July exists, though the Argentine men to do best today were not playing for Los Jaguares XV. The one Argentine starter for Selknam was man-of-the-match Franco Molina.

Molina and his colleagues in the forwards had the better of Los Jaguares XV. They won more contact battles than they lost. This was true in general play, the maul, ruck and also in the scrum and lineout. The match was won in this area and not in tries scored.

There was one try scored per team. Selknam scored early with hooker Tomás Dussaillant touching down in the try zone from a lineout to maul attack. Los Jaguares XV’s try was a penalty try which was the result of the same move.

Francisco Urroz missed his first two penalties but finished with five penalties from seven. This was what gave Selknam 23 points. Gerónimo Prisciantelli had an off-night with kickable penalties not being landed.

In a warning sign for the USA, Selknam’s Matías Dittus out played Puma Mayco Vivas. The Puma was fortunate to play out the match after he was yellow carded for a table to the head. The incident was surprisingly not red carded.

Selknam now celebrate the glory of a double over Los Jaguares XV. They are presently placed to meet again in the Semi Finals. There are two more matches to get through first and plenty of players pushing for opportunities. Uncapped Benjamín Videla is an example. He had an excellent game.
