USA and Canada name rosters for Langford 7s

The USA and hosts Canada have named their rosters for this weekend’s World Sevens Series event in Langford. It’s the fifth of six women’s tournaments this season and the first since the back-to-back events in Spain at the end of January.

Canada are currently in 8th spot overall and trail England by two points. They are coming off a dominant performance winning the Rugby Americas North tournament in Nassau and have made just one change to the travelling squad. Renee Gonzalez is recalled with Krissy Scurfield dropping out.

The Eagles are technically in 4th place though 3rd-place Russia will have deductions from their current points total at the season’s end after being suspended from the competition. France are just four points ahead in 2nd place while Australia hold a sizeable lead after winning three of four tournaments to date.

Mata Hingano and Naya Tapper are ruled out due to injury with Joanne Fa’avesi and Ilona Maher returning to the team in their place. Meanwhile former Men’s Eagles star Zack Test has been officially appointed to the coaching staff as an assistant under Head Coach Emilie Bydwell.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday with all matches streaming live on Peacock in the USA and the CBC Sports website in Canada. A complete fixture list can be seen here.
