It’s official. June 27th isn’t just the start of a busy week rugby week in Calgary, it’s been declared “Rugby Week” by the mayor himself, Naheed Nenshi. The popular politician, first elected in 2010, had this to say in a document released by his office last week:
“On June 27 – July 4, 2015, Calgary will host an exciting lineup of national and international rugby competition at the Calgary Rugby Park. This will be the largest combination of rugby events to ever take place in Calgary.
The top four Women’s teams in the world will compete in the international Women’s Rugby Super Series; the men’s competition will include the Canadian Rugby Championship tournament and the Stampede Sevens tournament.
On behalf of City Council, and the citizens of Calgary, I hereby proclaim the week of June 27 – July 4, 2015 as ‘Rugby Week’.”
