SLAR 2022 – Selknam vs Cobras – ARN Guide

Selknam and Os Cobras are two teams looking to get their first wins of the SLAR season. The Chilean and Brazilian SLAR entrants clash in Valparaíso in the third, and final, fixture of round two of SLAR 2022.

Selknam were beaten at the death in their opening round contest. The Chilean side fell to the Olímpia Lions in what was a superb match of rugby. A loss may have been a wake-up call for Selknam, only time will tell.

The team named to facre Os Cobras will be led by Francisco Urroz. The change comes with Ignacio Silva out of Saturday’s match. Urroz will be the skipper from fullback. He and Rodrgio Fernández will give Selknam two play-makers.

Selknam’s backline is solid overall. Marcelo Torrealba will provide excellent cover for Lukas Carvallo at scrum-half while Domingo Saavedra and Los Garafulic’s continue to give Chilean rugby a new edge to their back play.

Up front the loss of Silva is an opportunity for Raimundo Martínez. He starts alongside Selknam regulars Alfonso Escobar and Martín Sigren in the back-row.

There is a settled nature to Os Cobras‘ forwards. Familiary throughout the pack can be spotted in the front-row, second-row and in the back-row. The backline is similar in the halves and in the centers but different in the back-three. Fernando Portugal has opted to move Daniel Lima from wing to fullback and to start Robson de Morais on the wing.

Selknam’s team is Chilean-centric and Os Cobras are Brazilian-centric. Both replacement fly halves are from other countries, though. Juan Zuccarino is Selknam’s first Uruguayan player while Bautista Santamarina is set to make his SLAR debut for Os Cobras. The Argentine is from Los Tilos in La Plata.
