Colombia fall to Spain

In the first meeting between Colombia and Spain, Las Tucanes fell to a 47-15 loss in Madrid. Not only was the match the first time that Colombia has faced Spain, it was also the first time wherein Las Tucanes have played against a European rival.

Colombia may play against another European rival in several weeks time. Today’s match was a warm-up ahead of Colombia’s Women’s Rugby World Cup 2022 Qualifier against Kazakhstan in Dubai. The winner of that match will face Scotland to determine who goes to the Women’s World Cup.

Las Tucanes vs Kakakhstan will be on February 19 while Scotland will face the winner on February 25. Having failed to qualify, Spain will not complete in the tournament.

Despite the scoreline, Las Tucanes were competitive in the contest, notably so early on. María Isabel Arzuaga, Maribel Mestra and Annagith Vargas scored for the South Americans.
