Colombia name roster for RWC Qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland

Colombia has named a 29-woman roster for the upcoming winner-takes-all Women’s Rugby World Cup Qualifiers. Colombia will face Kazakhstan and the winner of that match will face Scotland to determine who will play in the Women’s Rugby World Cup later this year in New Zealand.

The changes to the Women’s RWC repechage resulted in Kazakhstan automatically qualifying for the Final Qualification Tournament where they await Colombia and Scotland. The tournament will involve three teams rather than the intended four.

With the competition reduced from four to three competitors, World Rugby decided that Scotland will play one match, that being against the winner of Colombia vs Kazakhstan. World Rugby determined that this was the best solution based on time. Scotland receives a bye based on rankings.

Colombia’s first match will be against Kazakhstan on February 19. It is a repechage Semi Final; a loss will end Las Tucanes’ dream of competing at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Las Tucanes are captained by Leidy Soto Espinosa. Like the majority of the roster she is from Antioquia. Soto Espinosa will lead Colombia in the upcoming match or matches in Dubái.
