Argentina settled for Silver at the Málaga Sevens after a Selvyn Davids try in stoppage time sealed a fifth consecutive tournament win for South Africa. Two tries from Joaquín de la Vega had Los Pumas in the lead until Justin Geduld tied the game and opened the door for the last-gasp win.
Four players touched down in the Semi Final for Argentina as they defeated England to earn their spot against the Blitzboks. The result means that Los Pumas are in 2nd place overall after three tournaments with three straight top-three finishes.
France were a step ahead of the USA in the 5th place Final, leaving the Men’s Eagles in 4th place on the season’s ladder. Earlier they had dispatched Canada in the 5th place Semi Final by outscoring their rivals three tries to one. That would be the only game for the Canadians on the final day of action.
Jamaica ended their tournament on a positive note though they ultimately fell just short to Japan in the 13th place Final. Gareth Stoppani scored a hat trick for the Crocs but Shotaro Tsuoka’s second try of the game on full-time secured the win for Japan.
The World Series continues in Seville next weekend.
