Dallas parts ways with Head Coach Michael Hodge

A second Major League Rugby team is now without a Head Coach. On the same day that Scott Lawrence announced his resignation from Rugby ATL, the Dallas Jackals have parted ways with Michael Hodge. The Australian had yet to arrive in Texas and a statement from the team says that visa delays have ultimately led them to end their agreement.

“We are saddened to announce the club and intended Head Coach Michael Hodge have mutually decided to part ways due to visa processing delays in Australia. With an approved visa in hand, Hodge’s intended arrival was a month ago. However, with strict travel restrictions in Australia and stricter emergency appointment and interview waiver criteria than other nations, the earliest consulate appointments are several months out.

“With training camp underway, Coach Hodge had been valiantly trying to coach remotely, including daily video calls and check-ins with on-the-ground coaching staff and players. After consultation with many, for the best interests of the team, the hard decision was made to make other coaching arrangements.

“Dallas Jackals Rugby wishes nothing but the best to Coach Hodge in his future endeavors and thank him for his passion for the Jackals. Concurrent with the search for Hodge’s successor, GM Elaine Vassie and the current coaching staff will continue to prepare the team for the 2022 inaugural season.”

It’s another unwelcome announcement for Dallas, who saw their intended Head Coach from last year Allen Clarke move to Seattle after the team opted to pull out of the 2021 season. Vassie has been coaching the team in Hodge’s absence while Forwards Coach Aaron Jarvis arrived in Dallas earlier this week.
