The Seattle Seawolves have signed utility back Duncan Matthews on a three-year deal through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. He most recently suited up for the Lions in the Currie Cup having played Super Rugby for the South African provincial side last year.
Matthews toured with the South Africa u20 side to Argentina in 2014 but missed out on the Junior World Championship due to injury. Two years later he made his Currie Cup debut with the Blue Bulls, and he made the step up to Super Rugby in 2017. He left the Bulls for the Lions in 2019.
Primarily a fullback, Matthews is also comfortable at both center positions or on the wing. He follows long-time teammate Dan Kriel to Seattle. The pair played alongside each other with the Junior Springboks, Bulls, and Lions.
