NOLA Gold have signed back row Maciu Koroi on a two-year deal through the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 26-year-old is yet to make his regular season debut but was on the Rugby ATL roster for the shortened 2020 campaign and was an unused replacement against the Gold.
Koroi was initially re-signed by the Ratlers ahead of the 2021 season but was then released following the preseason. He then signed to play for the Atlanta Rhinos in the North American Rugby League. The competition did not eventually take place and Koroi instead appeared in a one-off ‘Carolina Cup’ match.
A Collegiate All-American as a No8 for Life University, Koroi was also a USA u20 representative and played for the USA Falcons sevens side. The Fiji-born athlete joins a strong loose forward contingent at NOLA that includes Eagles trio Moni Tonga’uiha, Andrew Guerra, and Cam Dolan. Guerra will miss several months recovering from a broken leg suffered while playing for the USA against New Zealand.
