Argentina and USA into Men’s Quarter Finals in Dubai

Argentina and the USA have qualified for the Quarter Finals in the Men’s Bracket of the Dubai Sevens. The two sides finished first and second respectively in Pool B, while Canada failed to find a victory in a very challenging Pool A.

A pair of doubles from Luciano González Rizzoni led Los Pumas to wins over Spain and Kenya to open their return to the circuit. Their third pool match was against the Eagles, which ended in a 21-all deadlock despite two tries from Carlin Isles.

Logan Tago’s try in his World Sevens Series debut proved the difference in the USA’s opening game against Kenya. Spain were a step ahead in their second game with Gavan D’Amore-Morrison scoring the only try for the Eagles, converted by Stephen Tomasin.

Canada faced the might of Australia, Fiji, and France on Day One and could not achieve victory though they were competitive in each. Josiah Morra proved an elusive finisher for the Canadians, scoring tries in each game including a brace against the Wallabies.

Ireland will be Argentina’s opponent in the first Quarter Final on Day Two with the USA matched up against Great Britain. Canada moves into the 9th Place Semi Finals opposite Spain.

The tournament resumes on Friday night at 9m Pacific time, midnight Eastern. Live broadcasts will be available on the CBC Sports website in Canada, Peacock TV in the USA, ESPN in South America, and on the World Rugby website for those located abroad.
