González Amorosino Joins Jaguares in Durban

Fresh off facing Canada in the Americas Rugby Championship Argentine outside back Lucas González Amorosino now joins Los Jaguares in Durban. The Argentine Super Rugby Franchise is preparing to face the Sharks in a round two Super Rugby fixture on Saturday.

González Amorosino flies in to replace Jerónimo de La Fuente. The inside center suffered a ligament injury to his knee playing for Los Jaguares vs the Cheetahs on Friday. The extent of the Rosario mid-fielder’s injury is yet to be determined.

González Amorosino joins as an experienced utility option but not a player to directly replace de La Fuente. With Juan Martín Hernández requiring an additional week to be fully fit, either Santiago González Iglesias or Joaquín Paz are likely to were the 12 shirt.

González Iglesias provided cover from the bench for de La Fuente against the Cheetahs and has been used as a replacement fly half, inside center and outside center over the past two years by Daniel Hourcade for Los Pumas.

Paz, a specialist inside center, is coming off very strong performances in weeks one and two of the Americas Rugby Championship. His try in the opening round  win over the USA in Houston was followed by four tries against Chile in round two in San Juan.

González Amorosino recently returned from Ireland to Argentina. Having completed his short term medical joker contract with Munster the hero from the Rugby World Cup 2011 win over Scotland is the latest player under full-time contract with the UAR.

His arrival in South Africa this week coincides not only with de La Fuente flying home but also Tomás Lavanini. The second-rower will play no part in the match against the Sharks after having pleased guilty to a  dangerous charge in the first half in Bloemfontein.
