Stade Français are recruiting an Uruguayan scrum-half. Juan Manuel Tafernaberry is traveling today from Italy to France. He is joining the Stade Français academy system.
2021 has been a breakthrough year for Tafernaberry. In June he played for Uruguay u20s in the Four Nations tournament in South Africa. This included him featuring prominently in the win over Georgia. In November he was named on Uruguay’s roster for the tour to Europe. He was a replacement for Los Teros against Italy ‘A.’
Uruguay is well-served at scrum-half. Tafernaberry will join Agustín Ormaechea and Santiago Arata in France. Oramechea had a strong performance in Saturday’s test match against Italy. Arata was the starting scrum-half in the Rugby World Cup qualifiers against the USA.
Back at home Tomás Inciarte is the leading Uruguay no 9 at Peñarol. He started the November test matches for Los Teros against Romania and Italy. He had a very strong 2021 in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) and on representative duty.
