There will be no test matches between Italy and Americas test teams in 2022. The Azzurri will play ten test matches next year, the first five will be in the Six Nations Championship. Italy’s five remaining matches will be divided into July and November. As noted from Italian source On Rugby, none of them will be against Americas teams.
Italy are to tour Eastern Europe in July. The historic tour will see the Azzurri taking on Georgia and Romania in away matches. Such games have been long requested by rugby fans desiring increased opportunities for both Georgia and Romania as well as those wanting to see Italy playing more winnable matches.
The decision to tour east puts an end to the possibility of Italy touring the Americas in 2022. Prior to Uruguay sealing the Americas 1 spot for RWC 2023 the possibility existed for Italy to tour North America. Instead, the USA will face Chile home-and-away in RWC qualifiers. The series will be preceded by matches against the touring French Barbarians. Argentina are due to host Scotland for three matches in July.
Italy’s November Internationals will be home matches. The Azzurri will play against South Africa followed by Australia. Game three will be against a Tier 1 country. The unnamed team is likely to be a Pacific Islands country.
