Chilean back-rower Sebastián Kalm is to play PRO Rugby for the Columbus, Ohio team in the upcoming inaugural season. The player confirmed himself today on social media.
Kalm wrote on social media: “I couldn’t be more thankful to finally announce that I have officially signed my pro contract with PRO Rugby North America, for the Ohio venue!”
The former under 20 star forward has been playing rugby and living in the USA for a sufficient period that he qualifies for the USA Eagles on residency grounds.
His rise to securing a professional contract comes from his impressive performances and leadership for the Lindenwood University Lions. Based in St. Charles, Missouri the team were the 2014-15 Men’s DI College 7s champions.
Kalm captained the side to the title in May and in doing so attracted further interest from scouts. His rise in the U.S. college system saw him named in the USA Junior Collegiate Stars and Stripes Camp where he joined sixty-seven athletes last July.
Playing at under 20 level Kalm was a teammate of other Chileans playing abroad including Ramón Ayarza (France) and Anton Petrowitsch (Spain).
