Marcel Brache is on his way to Major League Rugby. The Los Angeles-born USA Eagles utility back has signed for Austin Gilgronis. He makes the move to the Texan side from the Western Force in Super Rugby.
The 33-year-old brings plenty of experience to Austin. He has played professional rugby in both Australia and South Africa and has been playing test rugby for the USA since 2016. Brache played in all four of the Eagles’ matches at Rugby World Cup 2019.
Brache’s utility is demonstrated in his caps at the World Cup and since. In Japan he played against England and France at center, then played on the wing against both Argentina and Tonga. In July 2021 Brache started at fullback against England.
On Saturday Brache will in the midfield for the USA in St. John’s in their all-important away RWC 2023 qualifier against Canada. The occasion will see Brache earning his 25th cap for the Eagles. He will be one of three Austin players involved, joining new clubmates Will Magie and Bryce Campbell.
