Arrows confirm five players for 2022 season

The Toronto Arrows have announced their first batch of returning players for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Cole Keith continues the deal signed ahead of the 2021 campaign while Andrew Quattrin, Guiseppe du Toit, Will Kelly, and Ronan Foley have committed for another year.

Keith made the switch from tighthead to loosehead prop in his third season with the club, playing 12 matches prior to joining Canada on their UK tour. The 24-year-old has been named on the bench for the test against the USA in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on Saturday.

Named in the starting lineup for Canada is 25-year-old Quattrin. He has cemented himself as the first choice hooker for the Arrows through his three MLR campaigns, and also featured in a dozen games during the 2021 season.

Also back for a fourth season is du Toit. The 26-year-old inside center played eight games and captained the side during their final three matches of the season in the absence of Lucas Rumball and Ben LeSage. A veteran of 14 tests, his starting position was challenged this year by Canada debutante Spencer Jones.

Kelly, 24, enters his third season with the club after arriving from a spell in the Dragons academy overseas. The flyhalf played nine games this year including five starts, his first at senior professional level. He is currently in Canada’s training group but is not in Saturday’s match day squad.

Foley is the newest member, playing four games at the end of the season after arriving from Dublin. An Ireland u20 international, the 23-year-old loose forward holds a Canadian passport via his parents, who are naturalized citizens, but does not satisfy World Rugby’s criteria to play for Canada.
