Canadian prospect Tyler Duguid has extended his stay with Top 14 side Montpellier Hérault through the end of the 2022-23 season. The 20-year-old second row adds one year to his initial academy deal signed last year. He will qualify for the JIFF local designation at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
Duguid made a strong impression in his first season with Montpellier after making the move from Narbonne. He made his senior professional debut as a replacement against Bath on May 1 in the Challenge Cup and then started six Top 14 games over the next month.
A standout in age grade international rugby, Duguid is yet to make his test debut. Injury prevented him from joining the senior team on their UK tour in July. Canada’s squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against the USA has yet to be confirmed.
The Duguid family is making its mark in Europe with two older siblings also signed on professional contracts. Brother Kaden recently signed on with Fédérale 1 club Peyrehorade while sister Abby is expected to return to Loughborough Lightning in England’s Premier 15s later this season.
