Psalm Wooching skips Rumilly for Rouen Normandie

Psalm Wooching will not be heading for Rumilly after all. The ink was barely dry on his contract with the French Fédérale 1 club and he has already found a new home. The US Eagles flanker immediately jumps two divisions to the fully professional Pro D2 to sign for Rouen Normandie.

Wooching’s initial signing announcement left many scratching their heads given the semi-professional status of the French fourth division. At the time he said he hoped the move would get his “foot in the door” of French club rugby.

Since turning down a potentially lucrative career in American football, the Hawaiian hitman has produced some dominant performances in Major League Rugby. He was recalled to the Eagles side this year after missing the World Cup and played in both the USA’s July tests as an impact replacement.

Rouen Normandie only narrowly avoided relegation last season but have an entirely new coaching staff led by long-time Brive manager Nicolas Godignon. Most notable is the hiring of legendary France flanker Serge Betsen as defense coach which should be of enormous benefit to Wooching’s development.
