Backing up from the opening round 30-10 win over Namibia the Argentina XV made it two from two in Romania this afternoon by defeating Spain 15-6 in a low-scoring match. The Argentina XV is a non-official test side and for this reason the matches are uncapped.
Coached by Felipe Contepomi and Ricardo Le Fort the Argentina XV struggled in the opening half. The only points scored were by Cristian Nacassian who landed a penalty to give the South Americans a 3-0 lead.
The second half opened with well executed play for Argentina leading to a try to fullback Tomás Carrió. It was quickly followed by Bautista Alvarez scoring a second after inside centre Brian Ormson had made a break.
The remainder of the match was similar to that of the opening half with the Argentina XV failing to deliver quality rugby. Spain hit back with two penalties to Bradley Linklater but was unable to threaten the Argentine try line.
On Sunday both teams will play their third and final fixtures. Spain will face Namibia in an official test while the Argentina XV will play against Romania.
