Martín Landajo is to join Perpignan in France. He will do so from Harlequins. The move sees him leaving the English Premiership for the French Top 14. Having also played Super Rugby for Los Jaguares, it sees a triple-crown for Argentina’s most capped scrum-half.
Perpignan are back in the Top 14. The Catalans won promotion by winning the PRO D2 Final this year. Pumas Patricio Fernández and Jerónimo de la Fuente both helped the club to the title. They are on the roster for the 2021-2022 season as is winger Bautista Delguy.
Landajo joined the Harlequins in 2019. He and Jaguares teammate Santiago García Botta both made the move from Super Rugby. Both players missed out on selection for RWC 2019. In the case of Landajo, he was earned his 84th, and most recent, cap in November 2018.
The 33-year-old Landajo has not featured on a Pumas roster since. This, however, does not mean that his test career is over. To the contrary, should a scrum-half be required to join the roster as cover in July then the player will be added from Europe.
Landajo is a product of CASI in Buenos Aires. His rise to the test team followed involvement for Los Pampas XV. In 2016 he joined Los Jaguares in Super Rugby. He did so after having been Argentina’s starting scrum-half in the team that defeated Ireland to reach the RWC 2015 Semi Finals.
