Ireland names squad to prepare for Japan and USA tests

Ireland coach Andy Farrell has named a squad of 37 to prepare for tests against Japan on July 3 and the USA on July 10. Both will take place the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Leinster lock James Ryan will captain the group that includes 11 uncapped players.

Among those absent are seven Ireland internationals who were selected for the British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa. Ryan was previously tipped as a potential Lions captain but he was not among the final 37 named by Warren Gatland.

A number of players have Six Nations experience such as loosehead prop David Kilcoyne, flankers Peter O’Mahony and Josh van der Flier, outside center Garry Ringrose, and winger Jacob Stockdale.

Notably Connacht flyhalf Jack Carty, who was part of the World Cup squad, has not been selected. His younger brother Luke has been named in the Eagles squad.
