The New England Free Jacks have signed former Seawolves hooker Stephan Coetzee for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He had initially re-signed for a third season in Seattle but left the club in March for reasons unknown.
Coetzee, 29, had been the first choice No2 since arriving in Seattle, lifting the MLR Shield with the club in 2019. Across his two seasons with the Seawolves he played 21 games, 18 of them starts, and scored an impressive nine tries.
New England now boast two South African rakes with Pieter Jansen acting as first choice to date. Vili Toluta’u is set to fill in as a back row over the remaining weeks of the season though a longer term move to the front row remains on the cards.
Meanwhile Mystic River back row Cam Davidowicz has also been added to the roster. The 25-year-old impressed with the New England Independents invitational side in two preseason matches against the Free Jacks last year, earning Man of the Match honors in the first game.
